Facial care for men with oily skin

Men's facial care for oily skin

Does your facial skin shine a little too much, pimples multiply faster than you'd like, and you have an oily skin feeling? Don't worry, it's not that bad. With the right care, you'll quickly get it back under control. In addition to possible causes and care tips, we also give you prophylactic measures to prevent overly oily skin from becoming a problem for you.

Causes of shiny, oily skin

Your skin produces one to two grams of sebum daily, and that's a good thing, because your sebaceous glands protect you from pathogens and environmental influences, such as UV rays. If sebum production gets out of balance, your skin becomes too dry or too oily. The factors for this are diverse: hormones, age, diet, stress, environmental influences, improper care or even your disposition play a role here. Especially in summer, your skin tends to become thicker and oilier, because heat and humidity stimulate sebum production. To bring your skin back into balance as quickly as possible, you should first determine possible causes. During puberty, for example, your hormones play a big role. You can't skip these, but factors such as negative stress or your diet are in your hands.
Small bonus: Oily skin is less prone to wrinkles.

Our recommendation for men with impure skin

3 things you can do about oily facial skin

Diet: excessive alcohol consumption, fast food, or sweets can overstimulate your sebum production. This doesn't mean you have to ban them completely from your life. Pay attention to your consumption occasionally and cut back for the sake of your skin.
Minimize heat and other environmental influences: You don't have to cancel your summer vacation. If you spend the extreme midday sun in the shade and wash off saltwater and chlorine promptly, not only your facial skin but your whole body will thank you. Also remember to pack high-quality skincare products in your suitcase and don't neglect your facial care routine.
The right facial care routine: Especially oily skin caused by puberty, disposition, or age is hard to avoid. Fortunately, there is now really good skincare with active ingredients that you can use to optimally support your skin. A proper facial care routine with the right products also prevents excessively oily skin.

Intensive men's care: How do I best cleanse oily skin?

As tempting as it may be: steer clear of intensely drying peels or creams. Why? Because they dry out your skin too much, which might seem like a win at first. However, your skin will then only produce more sebum, resulting in an even oilier face. A light facial care is better here than intensely drying or heavy, oily creams.
Before you let any products near your skin, you need to wash your face. This removes excess oil and dirt. Use lukewarm water – too much heat stimulates sebum production, remember? – and then use a gentle face wash with hydrating ingredients. Massage it in thoroughly and rinse with water. Gently pat your face dry with a clean towel and apply a moisturizing cream.

Your face can still be slightly damp, as this allows your skin to absorb nourishing ingredients even better. If needed, a facial toner can help disinfect your skin, preventing inflammation and pimples. If you shave regularly, also make sure to follow an appropriate shaving routine.
You should repeat this short but important routine morning and evening. This will soon rebalance your skin and give it a healthy glow, without being too oily, and you'll also prevent oily skin.

Which face cream for oily skin?

You should avoid oil-based creams; a light, moisturizing cream is best. Look for effective active ingredients such as Niacinamide, Ceramides, or Hyaluron. Our Daily Hydration Cream or Daily Protection Cream with SPF 30 are perfect examples. In general, make sure no fragrances are used, as these can unnecessarily stress your skin.

FAQ

When to see a dermatologist?

For severe acne, persistently oily skin, or if you're simply unsure what's best for you, consult your dermatologist. Don't waste your time experimenting, as this can potentially upset your skin even more.

Do I have to follow all the tips?

A good facial care routine is the first step and can provide immediate relief, but it is still essential to also pay attention to your diet, minimize negative stress, and consider environmental factors.
