Which is better: safety razor or system razor?
You know Safety razor maybe from old movies or from your father. In recent years, Safety razors are increasingly being replaced by system razors. But are the new multi-blade razors really better? What are the advantages and disadvantages of the different devices, and which one is best for you? We've put together an overview for you.

What you can expect:
The comparison: safety razor or system razor
Both razors are designed for wet shaving. But that's where the similarities end. From blade sharpness and number to sustainability, the two razors differ in many ways. We've compared the most important points for you:

1. Blade sharpness
Safety razor ✔
The blade of the safety razor is significantly sharper.
System razor ✘
It has more blades, but they get blunt quickly.
2. Number of blades
Safety razor ✔
Less is more, even with razors. One blade is significantly gentler on the skin than three or five.
System razor ✘
Two, three or even five blades – sounds better at first, but it damages your skin quite a bit.
3. Smoother result
Safety razor ✘
(However, after a little practice, you'll achieve a cleaner result with a safety razor.)
System razor ✔
When shaving with a multi-blade razor, the hair is cut below the skin's surface. Unfortunately, the top layer of skin also suffers and is often shaved off along with it... However, the skin feels smoother this way.
4. No razor burn
Safety razor ✔
The much gentler shave means the skin is less irritated and less prone to pimples, redness or ingrown hairs.
System razor ✘
Unfortunately, the multiple blades also damage your top layer of skin. This makes it easy for germs to grow and promotes razor burn.
5. Handling
Safety razor ✔
Easy to handle. Safety razors have a higher-quality handle and are slightly heavier, making them easier to hold.
System razor ✘
Easy to handle.
6. Cleaning
Safety razor ✔
Since you can remove the blade from the razor head, the safety razor is very easy to clean. Furthermore, the hairs you cut during your shave hardly clog the blade.
System razor ✘
Sometimes you have to use an old toothbrush or a small brush to remove the hair between the blades – and depending on the length of your hair, this may even happen while you shave.
7. Sustainability
Safety razor ✔
All you have to do is replace the blade, and even that can be recycled. No plastic waste is created.
System razor ✘
Most of the time, the entire razor or the entire head has to be disposed of. This creates a lot of residual waste.
8. Costs
Safety razor ✔
A bit more expensive initially, but over the course of a year, you'll save a lot of money. The razor will last a lifetime—and even longer. Razor blades are inexpensive and your only expense for decades to come.
System razor ✘
System razors are available for very reasonable prices. However, over a longer period of time, the costs for new razors or new razor heads add up considerably.
9. Security
Safety razor ✔
Did you know that safety razors used to be called safety razors? A closed comb is especially safe.
System razor ✘
System razors are also safe. Of course, you can cut yourself with either, but that's really difficult ;)
10. Quality
Safety razor ✔
There are both cheap and low-quality safety razors and high-quality ones. A quick tip: Buying a safety razor is a one-time investment that may seem a bit more expensive at first glance, but it's very durable.
System razor ✔ | ✘
There are also good system razors. However, these are often not very durable and have a rather inferior design.
5 reasons why you should use a safety razor
It's pretty obvious that the safety razor has been unfairly replaced by the automatic razor. We've listed the biggest advantages of a safety razor in more detail:

#1: Durable & sustainable
There is no plastic waste, or rather no waste at all, when you shave with a Safety razor on! The blades are fully recyclable and can be dropped off at a local recycling center or waste collection point. This way, you can avoid tons of residual waste. Pretty impressive! Plus, they'll last a lifetime—and even longer.
#2: No more ingrown hairs, razor burn, or pimples!
Thanks to the single, sharp blade, your skin is less irritated, making it significantly less prone to unsightly spots or redness. With the sharp blade, you usually only need one or two strokes over the same area, and all the stubble is gone. Multi-blade razors often have three to five blades in one head—meaning each stroke here is equivalent to at least three to five strokes with a safety razor. And you really don't have to put your skin through that stress.
#3: Cost savings
Yes, safety razors are, at first glance, a bit more expensive than plastic ones. But that's understandable, because wood or stainless steel simply costs more than plastic. Apart from the initial purchase, shaving with a Safety razors , however, are practically useless. All you have to do is replace the blades , which you can get for about 25 cents. It pays for itself in the first year of shaving!
#4: Clean shave and precise contours
After a little practice, a shave with a safety razor is extremely clean and close – even better than with a razor blade! You can also shave contours precisely and cleanly with a safety razor.
#5: Classy and simply cool
Safety razors simply have a timeless, sophisticated, casual quality. They're a safer version of a straight razor, yet deliver the same shaving experience. A safety razor also looks elegant, and you can feel the quality with every stroke.

How close a razor shaves?
Extremely thorough! After the second stroke, no more than a few stubbles remain. The sharp blade cuts your hair perfectly at the surface of the skin. After a little practice, you'll even achieve better results with a safety razor than with a system razor.
Can you cut yourself with a safety razor?
Theoretically, you can cut yourself with anything 😉 Safety razors aren't called safety razors for nothing. If you've been using a razor blade for years, it might take you a few days to get used to using a safety razor. Try using a closed comb at first, as the blade is protected by the head.
