Perfume Storage
Where and how should I best store my perfume?
Nothing completes your look as well as the right scent: it accompanies you all day (or all night) and gives you that certain something. A light, fresh scent for summer, a warm, sensual scent for winter, a scent for going out, one for the office – that's quite a collection. Have you ever wondered how long perfume actually lasts and how best to store your fragrances so you can enjoy them for as long as possible? In this article, we'll tell you!
Do's and Don'ts: Perfume Storage
Whether you've been loyal to your favorite scent for years or prefer to wear a new fragrance every day – good perfume comes at a certain price. With a few tricks, you can easily extend the shelf life of your fragrances, so they always smell like they did on the first day.
Do's: Tips for long-lasting perfume
The right temperature
Keep it cool: Store your fragrances in a cool place with a constant temperature to extend shelf life and maintain the quality of the scent.
Not only good climate control extends the shelf life of your perfumes, but also the right storage location. It should be dry and dark. Ideally, without direct sunlight - alternatively, you can of course store your perfume in its packaging. By the way: Our fragrances not only look great in the stylish dark bottles, but also protect them from sunlight.
The right storage
It's best to store your perfumes upright so they don't accidentally leak. Always close your perfume with its lid to minimize contact with oxygen.
Don'ts: 3 Mistakes to Avoid When Storing Perfume
Perfume in the bathroom
Did you know that you shouldn't store your perfume in the bathroom? The reason: temperature fluctuations and high humidity can negatively affect the quality and shelf life of your perfume.
Shaking perfume
Avoid unnecessarily moving or shaking your perfumes. This can allow air to enter the bottle, which can accelerate oxidation and thus reduce the shelf life of your fragrances.
Perfume on the windowsill
Even if your perfume collection fits perfectly on the windowsill – sunlight can make your perfume age faster and affect its quality. Therefore, a sunny spot like your windowsill is not a suitable place to store your fragrances. If there's no other way, you can of course simply keep your perfumes in their box.
Perfume Shelf Life – How long does a perfume last?
How long a perfume lasts largely depends on whether it has already been opened or is still sealed. As soon as a perfume is opened and comes into contact with air, the oxidation process begins, which causes the chemical composition of the scent to change over time. The shelf life of an opened perfume depends on various factors, including the quality of the ingredients, the concentration of the fragrance oils, and the storage conditions. An opened perfume typically lasts about 1 to 3 years, while a sealed perfume, when stored correctly, can last about 3 to 5 years or even longer.

FAQ
Can you store perfume in the refrigerator?
We would advise against storing perfume in the refrigerator, as condensation, light, and odors can impair its quality and scent. Perfume should instead be stored in a cool, dry, and dark place to preserve its shelf life.
Why store perfume in the dark?
Perfume should be stored in the dark to minimize contact with light. Light can alter the chemical composition of the perfume and lead to accelerated aging, causing the scent to lose quality and intensity faster. Storing it in the dark keeps the perfume fresher and truer to its original scent for longer.
Can you store perfume lying down?
Yes, perfume can be stored lying down if the bottle is well sealed. Lying storage can help minimize the perfume's contact with air, thus reducing oxidation. However, if the bottle is already open, we would advise against it, as it could leak.
How do you know if a perfume has expired?
An expired perfume can be recognized by a changed or unpleasant smell, reduced scent intensity, discoloration in the bottle, or the appearance of cloudiness or deposits. If the perfume no longer has its characteristic scent or even smells unpleasant, you should replace it.
